You will be required to consult one of our physicians before starting your thermal spa treatment sessions. After assessing your health status, the physician will prescribe the most adequate therapy to your case and supervise the entire treatment process.
At the Unhais da Serra Thermal Spa, patients are only charged once a year. Additional and/or follow-up appointments are free.

Traditional Chinese Medicine

Dating back thousands of years, traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is one of the most ancient forms of Oriental medicine.

A full, rigorous diagnosis is made based on TCM principles. TCM considers several aspects of your health, which may help explain the symptoms experienced. Patients may be required to attend a treatment session before their medical Appointment.

Based on unique, millennia-old techniques, Chinese Medicine is particularly useful in relieving pain and preventing disease, representing a complementary approach to Conventional Medicine.

Nutrition

Nutrition appointments focus on food re-education and healthy eating habits, suited to your health status and physical fitness.

Nutrition appointments include the following three stages:

1 – Review of medical history;
2 – Assessment of eating habits;
3 – Bioimpedance analysis and body measurements.
The first appointment will take about 1 hour; subsequent appointments will take approximately 40 minutes.

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy appointments involve an assessment of individual problems and needs, after which goals are set and a suitable treatment programme is designed.
During the assessment, the Physical Therapist will focus on identifying the underlying problem, in order to prescribe a treatment that will maximise mobility and quality of life. This assessment is essential to reaching an accurate diagnosis, determining prognosis and designing the most adequate treatment to each patient.

Orthopaedic

Orthopaedics is a medical specialty that focuses on musculoskeletal system disorders, namely diseases and injuries of the bones, cartilage, ligaments, menisci and muscles.

This branch of medicine focuses on the treatment of diseases such as arthritis, osteoporosis, sports injuries, fractures, sprains, rheumatic diseases and spinal disorders.

Orthopaedic treatments include a medical and a surgical component. Medical treatments include prescription medicines, intra- and extra-articular infiltrations, viscosupplementation with hyaluronic acid and physical therapy. Surgical treatments include invasive and minimally invasive techniques, such as arthroscopy and percutaneous surgery.
